Cambridge MPP Rob Leone was pleased to speak in support of Bill 141 today and remind the Liberal government of their promises during the 2011 Provincial Election, specifically their promise of expanding Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
“I’m always disappointed when elected officials play political games with public infrastructure projects, specifically hospitals,” said Leone.
“I’ve been calling for the government to not only build this hospital, but provide details of how they budgeted for it. Instead, they hold it over the head of my constituents.”
Leone’s first item of private member’s business after being elected was a motion asking that the details of all hospital infrastructure projects promised by the Liberals be provided by March 2012. The motion passed with support from the NDP. The government, however, up to this point has refused to co-operate.
“Political promises cannot administer an MRI, mend a broken arm or put shovels in the ground,” continued Leone. “Only dedicated funding will do that, and I’ve fought every day to ensure that funding is in place.”
Leone fears as we approach an election, the government’s smear tactics and spin will be on full display, but says his focus remains on bringing improved healthcare to the people of Cambridge and North Dumfries.
“There will be a hospital expansion in Cambridge,” concluded Leone. “All the scare tactics and political gamesmanship in the world won’t take away from the fact that that this project is necessary to the health and well-being of Cambridge residents and that I have supported this project at every turn.”
