Statement from MPP Rob Leone on World Teachers’ Day

With October 5th being recognized as World Teachers’ Day, I want to take a moment to thank all Ontario teachers for guiding, inspiring and nurturing the natural curiosity of the next generation. It is perhaps fitting that World Teachers’ Day falls on a Saturday, as for all the care, hard work and effort our province’s teachers put in, a day off is well deserved.

Certainly, if we all reflect on our years in school, it won’t take very long before we are fondly thinking about a teacher who left an invaluable impression on us. They may have been a little hard on us, molded us, or challenged us to improve on what we thought was our best, or demonstrated compassion, understanding, and support when we needed it most. More often than not, it was a little of both.

As education critic for the Ontario PC Party and as a father, I’m proud of the work that our teachers do each and every day. It is vitally important that we, as a province, find a way to ensure that our best and brightest teachers are in front of the classroom where they belong.

Today, please think about a teacher that made your life better, and if you can, say thank you.
